WELCOME TO STORA STÖTEN RUN
Stora Stöten Run has courses that are largely shaped by human power. Water has always been important to Falu Mine. Trails, roads, lakes, ponds, canals, and ditches have been dug out over the centuries. Along the course, the participants will run past medieval furnace sites, beautiful miners' farms, ponds and pond houses in a distinctive Nordic nature. All an important part of the World Heritage Falun. Here, participants are offered a historical experience that goes back several hundred years.
COURSES AND
CLASSES
Stora Stöten Run offers three courses with a length of 21.6 km, 13.6 km or 5.6 km. There are women's and men's classes on each course. In your registration, you choose whether you want to run with or without timing. Prizes are awarded to the first three runners on each course. Prizes are also drawn for other participants on all courses.
STORA STÖTEN
(THE GREAT PIT)
In the early summer of 1687, the miners had started to hear strange and disturbing sounds in the mine. During the Midsummer weekend, the biggest collapse ever in Swedish mining history occurred. Below ground, rubble masses were found as far down as 350 meters. An almost 100-meter-deep open pit was created and is today known as Stora Stöten (The Great Pit). Word of the incident spread quickly and became widely publicized because not a single miner lost their life. The mine was closed over the weekend due to Midsummer celebrations.
